Scrubbing Out

I played at the T2 regionals on Sun, with Joe and CP. JL was supposed to be here, but came late. I had wanted to run a modified GB version of my block deck which Top 4ed 2 weeks ago, but a quick playtest showed that it scoops to any storm based deck. So, at the last moment, i modified it to almost mono-black, which would prove to be a very bad decision. The expected decks were dredge, Dragonstorm, Perfect Storm, Gruul and Control, with maybe a few orzhov or Solarflare. Storm decks and beatdown turned up in full force, especially Perfect storm and Dragonstorm versions. Which was a bad matchup for me. I wanted to meet Gruul, but instead met a host of storm and orzhovish decks, which was not good at all. Joe ran Dragonstorm while CP ran dredge.

Rd 1: UW Control

Classic Azorius UW control. Supposed to be a good matchup. I win round 1 quite easily. Round 2 was when it all started going badly. I was most unlucky to be on the same table as a player-judge, who saw the foil Korlash and started saying it was too warped and i could get a DQ for that, blah blah.( I won’t get a DQ, maybe either warning or game loss) Which was an exaggeration since i was running the same 4 Korlash that JL ran 2 weeks ago and he never had any problems. But it distracted me, and i made a series of misplays, losing the second game. I was, like in a totally bad mood and game 3 saw my critters stopped my multiple Faith Fetters. At least my opponent was gracious enough not to call the judge over the Foil Korlash, which he was probably entitled to. And helped me call the judge after the game to switch to a proxed Korlash.

1-2

1 Loss, 0 Points

Rd 2: Perfect Storm

I make a major misplay, and lose a game i should have won. My opponent quickens into an end of turn Empty the Warrens and i take 10 from 10 Goblins. I have a damnation in hand and mana to cast it. I end turn extirpate his warrens instead of remand, and he reveals 2 remands in his hand. And so i lose to a very bad play.

Game 2, i get out 2 Hypnotic Specters, but he has ignorant bliss. He wins turn 4 or 5 with a lethal Ignite the memories.

0-2

2 Loss, 0 Points

R3: BYE

I get a BYE, so i slack ard and watch others play.

1 bye, 2 Loss, 3 pts

R4 Solar Flare

I meet a familiar face. This was my round 1 opp during the block tourney. I won him then 2-0, and he returns the favor today with Akroma smashing face both games to win 2-0. I mis-sideboard on game 2 and fail to bring in graveyard hate so i have only myself to blame when i get hit by the hasty turn 4 or 5 Akroma.

0-2

1 bye, 3 Loss, 3pts

R5 Dragonstorm

I meet Joseph with Dstorm which i know to be a bad matchup. I surprisingly win game 1 with discard and Korlash. On both Games 2 and 3, Joe starts with Lotus Bloom and i lose both games on turn 4 or 5.

1-2

1 bye, 4 loss, 3pts

R6 Orzhov

I lose game 1 to his Hypnotic Specter and Dark Confidant.

I win game 2 when my 2 Tombstalkers and 3 Hypnotic Specters attack through his double griffin guided Knight.

I lose Game 3 to serra avenger.

1-2

1 bye, 5 Loss, 3 pts

Rd 7: Gruul

Finally. I get the one good matchup of the day. I have been hoping to meet beatdown, be it zoo, gruul or boros but i an never paired with them. Having said that, i lose game 1 to fast beats, but rounds 2 and 3, my 4 wrath effects and my sideboarded bottle gnomes ensure my life total stays healthy and i win the one and only game of the tourney.

2-1

1 bye, 1 win, 5 loss, 6pts.

Overall: I ran an underpowered deck, was not prepared, did not playtest and not surprisingly scrubbed out. In addition i made various misplays. Sighz. Should prob stick to block constructed, T2 is not good to me.
